Consignor Guide: What Sells

If you’re cleaning out your closet and thinking about consigning, here’s the honest scoop: some brands just move faster.

We keep very few brand restrictions because I believe in variety and different price points. But when I look at what consistently sells — both in-store here in Asheville and in our online shop — certain names come up again and again. And it’s not just local demand. These same brands are strong sellers nationally in the resale market, which helps them move quickly when we list them online.

Brands like Torrid, Lane Bryant, Old Navy, Maurices, and Cato don’t sit long. Shoppers know the fit. They know their size. They feel confident grabbing it. Jeans, dresses, work pants, casual tops — if they’re in great condition, they usually move. These brands are in high demand not only here, but across the country in plus-size resale.

Then there are brands that may not always be flashy, but they consistently sell: Cacique, Misook, Anthropologie, Talbots, Bob Mackie, Punk Rave, J. Jill, Denim & Co., Madewell, Lands’ End, Eddie Bauer, and Livi (Lane Bryant). These do especially well when they’re polished, structured, or a little special — think job interviews, date nights, weddings, parties, or elevated everyday wear.

And yes — everyday brands matter too. Catherines, Judy Blue, Tommy Hilfiger, Columbia, Maurices, and Denim & Co. absolutely move, especially in strong-demand sizes. Affordable, wearable brands with good fit always have buyers.

Season Matters

In-season items always sell faster.

We focus on what shoppers need right now. Sweaters and coats move in fall and winter. Sundresses, shorts, and lightweight tops move in spring and summer. Bringing items in during the season they’re meant to be worn increases your chances of selling quickly.

If you’re unsure whether something is in season, just ask — we’re happy to guide you.

The Sizes We Always Need

Even though we carry size 12 and up, we are always in need of sizes 24+, 3X, and 4X.

Those sizes are harder to find in good brands, and they sell fast — both locally and nationally. We restock them constantly, and they still don’t last long. If you’re deciding what to prioritize bringing in — start there. They consistently move quicker than many other sizes.

We’re Always Hunting for the Unique Stuff

Beyond the well-known brands, we are always on the lookout for handmade, alternative, upcycled, and truly unique plus-size pieces.

These are harder to find — and they never stay on the rack long. Unique, high-quality pieces stand out in the national resale market and attract shoppers who are looking for something bold or different. If you have something artistic, small-batch, vintage-inspired, or creatively reconstructed, bring it in. Those pieces bring energy to the store and tend to sell quickly both in-store and online.

We’re Brand Flexible — But Very Picky About Condition

We don’t have many brand restrictions because offering lots of brands helps us give shoppers more choice and more price options.

But we are strict about quality.

Visible wear will disqualify an item. It doesn’t matter if it was originally a $150 sweater — if there’s a stain, hole, heavy pilling, or damage, we won’t take it. Very rarely, if something is truly high-end, handmade, or vintage, we might allow a tiny flaw — but that’s the exception, not the rule.

We’re especially picky with bras, shoes, and purses. Those need to be in excellent shape with minimal wear and strong structure. We don’t have much room for them, so quality really matters.
